On April 5, 2013, California’s Division of Oil, Gas & Geothermal Resources (DOGGR) announced two additional stakeholder workshops to seek input on the “discussion draft” of proposed regulations (pdf) on hydraulic fracturing, or “fracking.” Having already conducted such workshops in Los Angeles, Bakersfield, and Sacramento, DOGGR will now conduct workshops in Santa Barbara and Monterey later this month.
These workshops are designed to receive input from industry, the environmental community, other regulators, and interested members of the public on the discussion draft regulations. The discussion draft regulations, which we previously analyzed, includes provisions for pre-fracturing well testing, advance notification, monitoring during and after fracturing operations, disclosure of materials used in fracturing fluid, trade secrets, and storage and handling of hydraulic fracturing fluids.
The Santa Barbara workshop will be held Friday, April 19, 2013, from noon to 8:00 p.m. with a one-hour dinner break at The University Cub, 1332 Santa Barbara Street, Santa Barbara, California 93101 (map). The Monterey workshop is scheduled for Tuesday, April 30, 2013, also from noon to 8:00 p.m. with a dinner break at the Hilton Garden Inn, 1000 Aguajito Road, Monterey, California 93940 (map).
